Hip-Hop History... And Future
By Manny Faces • Issue #55 • View online
First and foremost, we are extremely saddened to hear about the tragedy at the Astroworld festival in Houston, and send our deepest condolences to all affected. I hope with all my heart that whatever assortment of issues that conspired to allow such a terrible incident to occur are uncovered and dealt with properly so that nothing like this can ever happen again.
This is Hip-Hop History Month (U.S. Senate). And while we can (and should) speak at great length as to whether being designated so by the United States government means anything tangible, the general consensus amongst the participants of the culture is that November is as fine a time as any to celebrate the history of the music and culture that have changed the world in so many ways.
Of course, personally, my work has long been to not only celebrate Hip-Hop history, but amplify its current, and potential ability to improve society and uplift humanity. For those who are as interested in Hip-Hop’s future as much as in Hip-Hop’s past, I’m your guy, and this is your newsletter.
Anyway, quick notes before the latest batch of hand-picked stories of Hip-Hop influenced innovation, inspiration and insight:
  • We have an accompanying podcast (Hip-Hop Can Save America!) that ties in very nicely in conjunction with those thoughts. Listen here for free!
  • You can nominate someone (or yourself) doing innovative work that involves Hip-Hop music and culture to be a guest!
  • Want to learn more about the power of Hip-Hop to inspire innovation in education, health & wellness, science & tech, social justice, business and entrepreneurship, and all kinds of ways that can uplift humanity? Click here and let’s talk!
  • We do this work completely independently. No one wants corporate overlords telling us how to report on Hip-Hop. Please help support this work.
Thank you.
