The Hip-Hop Advocate Newsletter
Peace and love to friends, neighbors, supporters and haters!
Back on the scene, crispy and clean, with another week’s worth of stories I’ve collected that shine light on interesting and innovative aspects of hip-hop music and culture.
Sadly, yet again I have to start this edition with a somber nod to a couple of the culture’s artistic forces that passed away this week. RIP Craig Mack and Matt Dike.
Once again, if you like this newsletter, you’ll LOVE the new podcast I’m launching through my organization, The Center for Hip-Hop Advocacy. It will look at the many “non-traditional” ways hip-hop music and culture are enhancing society. Sort of the podcast version of this newsletter.
Looks like a May 1 launch. Reply to this newsletter if you want to know more, or sponsor us!
In the meantime, I’m always down to speak about hip-hop music and culture, journalism, or podcasting at your school, conference, or festival. Click here and let’s talk about talking!
Lastly, if you were forwarded this newsletter, feel free to sign up directly so you don’t miss anything in the future!
OK, that’s it from me. Time to take off like an MX missile…

BREAKIN’ NEWS
Hip-hop meets social justice and civil liberties journalism in the hard-hitting, head-nodding podcast, News Beat. In this episode: With Obama’s “War on Whistleblowers,” Trump unflinchingly attacking the media and reporters being arrested… Exactly how “free” is the free press?
A podcast episode every journalist (and citizen) must hear.
