Peace and love to friends, neighbors, supporters and haters!
Wow. Lots going on. And I’m hitting you on Tuesday evening? That’s new…
Well, you know what else is new? My new podcast, Hip-Hop Can Save America! And it’s launching TONIGHT at 10pm on BondfireRadio.com or on Bondfire Radio’s channel on the TuneIn App.
For this project, I’ll be speaking with the innovators who are responsibly using hip-hop in ‘non-traditional’ spaces – education, health & wellness, tech, politics… You’re going to love it!
So, tune in tonight and every Tuesday, and chat with me during the show in the Bondfire chatroom or on Twitter using hashtag #HHCSA.
(If you can’t listen live, or you missed it, swing by hiphopcansaveamerica.com - also coming soon to your favorite podcast app!)
OH. One more thing. The other podcast I produce, News Beat, which mixes hard-hitting social justice journalism with hip-hop music and original lyrics, just won Best Podcast at the 2018 New York Press Club Awards
(That’s a pretty big deal.)
Yet, as we celebrate this connection between journalism and hip-hop, we are also saluting the life and work of independent hip-hop journalist Zachary Stoner, who was also bridging those worlds in Chicago. Stoner was killed on May 30.
We’ll start with him.

Social justice journalism meets hip-hop with the groundbreaking (and now, award-winning) podcast, News Beat. In this episode: Kerner Report: 50 Years Later - We hear from one of the original authors of this stunning report that warned of “two separate societies: one black, one white - separate and unequal.” 50 years later, we’re no better off, and we wonder if there is still any hope?
